First LNG production was obtained at the Machala/Ecuador 200 MTD LNG Plant on November 21st, 2011. First LNG Trailers left the production site on the same day for a tile manufacturer in Cuenca as such establishing the first LNG distribution in Ecuador. The Machala LNG plant is the first Natural Gas Liquefaction plant on the west coast of South America. The 200 MTD LNG plant, together with a full service cryogenic nitrogen plant serving for the utilities was entirely designed and built by Cryonorm Projects. Plant's power generation by using natural gas driven gen-sets consuming all waste gases, as well as the LNG storage system was designed and build by Cryonorm Projects' partner Indox CryoEnergy from Spain.
